Kohl's Shoplifters Allegedly Run Over Employee While Kids in Car

Three children were in a car in which two shoplifters tried to use to flee after striking a Salem Kohl's employee who caught them.

Two women face a variety of charges for allegedly stealing clothing from the Salem Kohl's before backing a vehicle that contained three children into a loss prevention employee while attempting to flee the parking lot.

Rebecca Finn, 33, and Monica Cochrane, 32, both of Bradford, were arrested around 4:10 p.m. Monday during the incident at the store, located at 92 Cluff Crossing Road.

Salem Police Lt. Ron Peddle said the women were arrested after a Kohl's employee tried to stop Finn and Cochrane from taking off with "less than $500 worth of clothing" they had stuffed in their purses.

The employee stood behind a black Toyota Camry operated by Finn in an effort to stop the women from leaving, although Peddle said Finn hit the employee with the back of the vehicle before running over a shopping cart and fleeing through the parking lot.

Responding officers were able to prevent the suspects from leaving the scene by surrounding the Camry in a different part of the parking lot.

Peddle said Finn and Cochrane were both charges with reckless conduct, willful concealment, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Both women were released on $620 cash bail and both are scheduled for arraignment in Salem District Court on Feb. 3.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision with the Kohl's employee, according to Peddle.
