Bob Smith, Gingrich supporter, "tempted" to respond to Sununu attacks, the new and the old.

Congressman John E. Sununu, backed by his powerful father, the former governor and chief of staff to the first President Bush, took the unusual step of challenging New Hampshire's incumbent U.S. senator for the Republican nomination in 2002.

A protracted, bare-knuckle fight ensued. And Bob Smith, who had previously quit the party before rejoining, lost out in the GOP family feud.

Fast-forward to today, and Bob Smith is back on the campaign trail in New Hampshire. He is a volunteer for his old friend, Newt Gingrich.

Patch asked him about that tough 2002 fight, whether he still had any ill will for either Sununu, and what he thought of the barbs directed at his candidate by Mitt Romney supporters–chief among them, John H. Sununu. "It's tempting to respond to that," Smith says, responding in the video on the corrosive nature of intra-party attacks.
