Local Beer Supply Shop Ready to Tackle Brewing Market

A grand opening will take place on Saturday.

Joe and Regina Ruotolo don't expect to make a million dollars in the craft beer industry, but they don't mind.

The two are taking care of their dogs while brewing, drinking and selling beer, and that's enough to pay the bills.

Less than two years after Border Brew Supply opened in Salem, the "off the beaten path" shop is ready to make a name for itself in the brewing industry.

Joe Ruotolo recognized the immense popularity of craft brews in the region. He has been brewing beer for years, and now it's time for others to taste what he has in store.

"I'm a brewer – that's what I do," he said. "Ultimately, that's what I wanted to do for a living was the brewing, and the Border Brew Supply was the engine to get me to that point."

Prior to launching the brewery, Joe hosted brewing classes at his shop, so he was always crafting ales, lagers, pilsners and porters, even when he couldn't sell the results.

The couple will celebrate the launch of Border Brewery this Saturday by welcoming customers in for a grand opening.

While the brewery is small right now, the couple is working to get more exposure.

On Aug. 27, they will attend the Southern New Hampshire Brewing Festival, hosted by White Birch Brewing in Hooksett, N.H. The two have attended the festival once before, but this will be the first time that they can offer beer to sample rather than just supplies.
