Salem's Morse to Be Elected NH Senate President Tuesday

Sen. Chuck Morse will be officially chosen as the successor to New Hampshire Senate President Peter Bragdon when the full Senate meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Salem Republican secured the unanimous support of the 13-member Republican Caucus last week, and a majority of the Senate's 24 members is required to elect the new president.

Morse said in a statement last week that he was "humbled" by the nomination from his party, although he said he also expects to receive support from Democratic senators.

"As our work over the last year has shown us, there is much more that unites us than divides us, and by seeking to expand those areas of agreement, and reiterating my pledge to lead the Senate in an open, honest, and transparent manner, I am confident I can earn their votes... Tuesday," said Morse.

The Associated Press recently reported that Morse, if elected Senate president, "doesn't expect to make many changes but wants to talk to people after Tuesday's vote about issues including whether New Hampshire should expand Medicaid to an estimated 49,000 poor adults and where to find revenue for highway improvements."
