Salem, NH Patch is looking for residents running in the Boston Marathon to feature in runner profiles.
It's less than a month away. The 117th Boston Marathon will bring thousands of runners through the streets on Monday, April 15, 2013. Are you one of those runners? Salem, NH Patch will be running (no pun intended) profiles of Salem residents participating in this year's Boston Marathon. We're hoping to tell your neighbors and fellow runners about all the hard work you've done to get to this historic day. Interested in a Patch runner profile? Boston College alum Terry Doyle will take the mound at Spring Training in Fort Myers.
A former Salem resident and Boston College alumnus will take the hill in Fort Myers on Thursday to face off against his former school, according to the Boston Herald. Terry Doyle, 27, is a native of Concord, Mass. but grew up in the Granite State. He was selected in the 37th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He has never pitched a regular season game in the major leagues, bouncing around various minor league organizations since being drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2008. The split-squad game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will immediately follow a 1:35 p.m. clash with Northeastern. The two contests traditionally kick off the Spring Training schedule.

The hire became official last week.
According to the Union Leader, the Salem High School football team has found its replacement for Adam Gagne, who served as coach during a dismal 0-11 season last year. That new hire will be Bob Pike, who according to the paper has been an assistant coach for the team for the least three seasons. The hire became official on Tuesday night.

A practice facility will be created on 11 Garabedian Drive.
The New Hampshire Roller Derby will soon be in Salem after town planners granted a conditional use permit for a practice facility on 11 Garabedian Drive, according to the Union Leader. The building is 57,167 square feet, and the report says that the athletes will use about 12,000 square feet of that space. Public events will continue at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Coliseum in Manchester now that a practice space has been secured.

NHL team provides several perks in an effort to win back fans' loyalty.
In an effort to say thank you to Boston Bruins fans returning following the NHL's long lockout this season, the team is offering free concessions at all five January home games. According to NESN.com, fans will receive three concession (alcoholic beverages not included) vouchers, pro shop discounts and other perks, in addition to plenty of giveaways at each game. The Bruins take the TD Garden ice for the first time on Saturday, Jan. 19, 7 p.m., and also host home games against Winnipeg on Monday, Jan. 21; the New York Islanders on Friday, Jan. 25; New Jersey on Tuesday, Jan. 29; and Buffalo on Thursday, Jan. 31. This is the 10th anniversary of the event.
Over 150 exhibitors are scheduled to make their way to Rockingham Park this weekend for the annual Fishing & Hunting expo. The event, which will run on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. There are dozens of opportunities at the expo provided for both children and adults. Over 50 scheduled free seminars will run throughout the two days at the expo. There will also be a kids archery station along with a scavenger hunt available for children. Salem superintendent expects issues to be discussed more locally in the wake of Connecticut shooting.
SAU 57 Superintendent Michael Delahanty said he expected discussions about school security and emergency response to begin again locally in the wake of Friday's school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Delahanty said Salem schools did not take extra precautions or change any of their normal school day protocols as a result of the shooting. Without knowing full details on what happened in Connecticut, Delahanty said it could have been "potentially more problematic" to change protocols or increase police presence at schools.
