Sanbornization. I told you so.

Last June I wrote on this blog  that voting for a Sanbornized contract is in effect "voting for a tax increase in future years that the voters in those years can not control and have no vote. "

This is already the case.  

A simple majority last March voted for Sanbornized contracts that have made it far more difficult to level fund the Town of Salem.  Obliquely, the Town Manager stated as much in the August 26th Selectmen's meeting.  

In my view it should have taken  a supermajority to compel this year's Town Meeting to be subject to a vote last March.  

Next time Sanborinized contracts come before the Town Meeting remember, you are most likely voting to compel future Town Meetings to pay the bill with no vote on it.   And that is just not right.
