Five Things to Know About SHS Thanksgiving Football

Third holiday matchup for the Blue Devils and the Lawrence High Lancers.

Salem High School's annual Thanksgiving Day football game actually comes a day early this year, happening tonight. Here are five things to know about the game:

1. THE GAME: The Blue Devils will be taking on the Lawrence, Mass., Lancers starting at 6 p.m. at Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium. The stadium is located at 240 Osgood St., in Lawrence.

2. LOCAL BROADCAST: In Salem, the game will be broadcast live on Channel 6.

3. THE TEAMS: The Blue Devils will be looking for their first win of the season tonight as they completed their NHIAA schedule 0-10. The Lancers, who play in the Merrimack Valley Conference II, finished their regular season with a 2-8 record.

4. LAST SEASON: The two teams met last year in Salem on Thanksgiving Day and the Lancers beat the Blue Devils on Grant Field by a score of 46-28.

5. THE HISTORY: The Blue Devils-Lancers Thanksgiving rivalry is a relatively new one compared to many others in the region, with this their third consecutive game. The Blues Devils are 1-1 in the games so far as they won the first game in 2010 by a 44-38 score.
