School District Announces Phase II Informational Session

The meeting will take place on Aug. 29.

The Salem School District has announced that an informational session for parents with children attending the Fisk and Soule Schools will be held later this month in regards to the construction projects taking place at the facilities.

The meeting, announced by Superintendent Michael Delahanty, will take place on Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Representatives of the district's construction manager, Bonnette Page & Stone Company, along with architects and school officials will be present to deliver information and answer questions.

The session was scheduled by the Salem School Board and the Facilities Renovation Project: Phase II Committee.

Topics during the session will include the safety and security program. The plan will address how construction processes will be integrated with school operations while keeping students and staff separated from construction personnel.

The decision to operate with concrete floors for the upcoming school year will also be discussed, along with a review of the milestones of the upcoming project schedule.

Also to be discussed will be the project phasing process, including new construction and renovations to existing classrooms.

Phase II renovations were approved by voters in March 2013. They include significant renovations and expansion of Fisk, Soule and Haigh Schools.

Modest work at Haigh School will not begin until summer 2014.

At Fisk and Soule, the project addresses small group instruction space and accommodates kindergarten classrooms, eliminating portable classrooms at both locations.

Safety and security issues will be strengthened at all three schools.

Work on the three elementary schools will see a total cost of about $17 million.

As part of Salem's Facilities Master Plan, Phase III will involve renovations and expansion of Salem High School, with the final phase to address Woodbury School.

Parents are asked to direct questions to their school's principal or the superintendent's office: 603-893-7040.

Updates on the renovations can also be found at this website.
