Selectmen to Consider Self Insured Plan

The employee health insurance change, were it to pass, would possibly be for 2014.

The Salem Board of Selectmen will hear a proposal tonight to change employee health insurance to a self insured plan in 2014.

It is the first time selectmen have reviewed such a change.

Self insurance options are usually explored to counter rising costs and local and state fiscal pressures. The state of New Hampshire, for example, has a "self-insured" plan.

The meeting is scheduled to begin Monday, 7 p.m., in the Knightly Meeting Room. A non-public session is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The agenda also includes:

  • Road committee request for discussion of sewer expansion on Bridge and School Street.
  • Discussion on process and terms for sale of Foss School.
  • Salem School District request for waiver of fees for building, electrical and plumbing permits for school renovation projects.
