Selectman Criticizes FEMA's 'Nonsense' Aid for Salem Storm

The selectman, who still accepted the money, said these payouts are "why the federal government has a $17 trillion deficit."

Selectman Stephen Campbell was critical Monday of the Federal Emergency Management Administration's decision to reimburse the town $110,708.94 to help cover the costs of fighting a February blizzard that blanketed Salem with two feet of snow, stating the money "is not free" because it is "tax money at work," according to the Union Leader.

"This is amazing," Campbell reportedly said before voting to accept Salem's share of the funds, according to the Union Leader. "It snows in New Hampshire in February. Anyone who wants to understand why the federal government has a $17 trillion deficit, this is the sort of thing that is nonsense for government at higher levels."
