NH Cheers Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl Release

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was released from captivity in Afghanistan after five years.

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, released from captivity in Afghanistan after five years, is receiving a hero's welcome home. New Hampshire elected officials cheered the news.

"Sergeant Bergdahl’s release is incredibly heartening news, and I am sure his family and loved ones are overcome with joy that they will soon be reunited," Gov. Maggie Hassan said. "His dedication and resilience represent the very best of all our service members, and I join all Americans in thanking him for his service, bravery and sacrifice."

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, said in a statement: "I was so grateful to hear of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl's release after five years in captivity. His release is an incredible testament to our military and our country's commitment to leaving no one behind on the battlefield. I am looking forward to him being reunited with his family soon and am thankful for his service, his sacrifice, and his courage."

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, Tweeted over the weekend: "Glad to hear American POW Sgt Bowe Berghdal has been released. Our nation is grateful for his service and sacrifice."

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, a Democrat representing New Hampshire's 1st District, issued the following statement:
 
"I am absolutely thrilled that Sergeant Bergdahl has finally been released after five long years. I want to thank everyone who is responsible for securing his release, especially the active duty troops and the veterans who refused to leave one of their own behind."
