5 to Offer Health Insurance Coverage in NH in 2015

The Department of Insurance announced five carriers plan to provide coverage in NH in 2015.

Five carriers plan to offer coverage in New Hampshire's Health Insurance Marketplace in 2015, which would blunt one of the criticisms about the Affordable Care Act's narrow network in the state.

Anthem was the sole insurance provider with the initial enrollment in 2014. Four providers to offer insurance options in 2015 are:

  • Assurant Health (issued by Time Insurance Co.)
  • Maine Community Health Options (a co-op, that plans to initially offer products in Rockingham, Strafford, Carroll and Coos counties)
  • Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England
  • Minuteman Health
"Today’s announcement that two additional carriers plan to offer coverage on New Hampshire’s Health Insurance Marketplace in 2015 is fantastic news that will improve affordability and increase choices for all New Hampshire citizens," Gov. Maggie Hassan said in a statement. "Bringing additional competition to our Health Insurance Marketplace is a critical component of our effort to bring quality, affordable health coverage to all Granite Staters, and with five carriers now planning to offer coverage in 2015, we have taken an important step toward improving the health and financial well-being of our people."

Open enrollment for 2015 begins Nov. 15 according to Covering New Hampshire.

"New Hampshire residents have asked for options," New Hampshire Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny said in a press release. "In 2015, they will have five insurance companies to choose from, as well as a variety of plans and networks. It’s all about choice – choice of carriers, choice of plans, and choice of provider networks. Choice is good for consumers and good for competition."
