Working Fire in Salem

The blaze was reported around 3:40 p.m. on North Policy Street.

Firefighters are responding to a working fire in a home on North Policy Street in Salem.

The blaze was reported around 3:45 p.m. at 50 North Policy St., according to emergency radio broadcasts. Smoke was reportedly showing from the roof of a 2-story, 2-family ranch style dwelling. Mutual aid is being called to the scene and for station coverage.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen and may have extended to the attic.

Salem Police said North Policy Street is closed between Clinton Street and Marianna Road due to the fire. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.

The fire was declared under control around 4 p.m.
