Woman Dies of Possible Heroin Overdose in Salem

It's one of several recent overdoses connected to what is believed to be a tainted batch of the drug.

A 28-year-old woman was found dead of a possible heroin overdose in a local hotel room on Thursday.

Salem Police and Fire were called to the Red Roof Inn at 2:24 a.m. Thursday for a possible drug overdose. Officers had to force their way into the room and found a 28-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive.

Salem Fire attempted to revive the woman, but were unable to do so. Salem Police detectives and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner responded to the scene. The body was removed from the scene at 6 a.m. Detectives processed the scene and recovered what appeared to be heroin and drug paraphernalia.

The case remains under investigation and police are not releasing the victim’s name pending next of kin notification.
