Third Person Overdoses on Heroin Within 21 Hours

Salem emergency responders have transported another individual following an overdose on possibly tainted heroin.

Emergency responders have transported another individual to the hospital after performing life-saving measures following an overdose on possibly tainted heroin.

Police and firefighters responded to 161 Bluff St. in Salem at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for the third reported drug overdose in the past 21 hours, according to Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten.

The 21-year-old man was found unconscious before paramedics revived him and transported him to a local hospital, according to Patten. The man, who is now reportedly conscious and breathing, is believed to be third individual sought in connection to a heroin purchase in Lawrence, Mass.

The other two individuals involved in that purchase — a 20-year-old Haverhill, Mass., woman and a 21-year-old Salem man — overdosed on Ticklefancy Lane around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Police have said they believe the individuals snorted "a possible bad batch" of heroin.

The woman was in a coma Tuesday morning at a Boston-area hospital, while the man was in critical condition at a different Massachusetts hospital, according to Patten.

Salem detectives were still on the scene and investigating the Bluff Street overdose around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
