Former Cop Facing 14 Sex Assault Counts for Abusing Teen

Twenty-five-year police veteran Carlos Gonzalez was out on $100,000 bail Thursday after his arraignment in connection to 20-year-old acts.

Former Lawrence, Mass., Police Officer Carlos Gonzalez, 49, was arraigned in Rockingham Superior Court Thursday on 14 aggravated felonious sexual assault charges for allegedly abusing an 11-year-old Salem girl between 1992 and 1993, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

The Eagle-Tribune has reported that Gonzalez, recently acquitted of similar charges in Florida, was silent throughout the court proceedings. Gonzalez was a 25-year Lawrence police officer when he was fired following an arrest on Feb. 27 in connection to the Florida case, which prompted Salem police to reopen their 2005 investigation into allegations against Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was released on $100,000 personal recognizance bail Thursday afternoon.
