Felon Found Passed Out With Gun, Heroin Headed to Prison

Joseph Ida was caught with drugs in Salem last year while serving a suspended sentence in connection to a Windham overdose death.

A one-time Windham resident is headed to prison for violating the terms of a suspended sentence handed down in connection with a high profile drug case involving the death of a local woman in 2011, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

Joseph Ida, 25, now of Woburn, Mass., was ordered Tuesday to spend 1-1/2 to 3 years in state prison, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

He was connected to the death of 20-year-old University of New Hampshire student Ellie Morin, who was found dead in Ida's Windham home on Dec. 21, 2011.

Police ruled the death accidental due to "acute drug intoxication."

Ida later pleaded guilty to felony drug possession and manufacturing charges and was sentenced to a week in jail.

While serving a suspended sentence as part of that plea deal, he was arrested on drug charges in December 2013 after he was found passed out in his vehicle in the parking lot of a Salem tattoo parlor with heroin and a loaded 9mm handgun.

Ida was charged with possession of a controlled drug, felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property (stolen firearm), transportation of drugs in a motor vehicle and carrying a handgun without a license as a result of that incident.
