Driver Arrested After I-93 Pursuit

Hooksett man is accused of leading NH State Police on a chase from Salem into Derry.

A Hooksett man was arrested after speeding away from a police stop in Salem on Sunday afternoon.

New Hampshire State Police said Kosmas Koustas, 35, was pulled over in a Volkswagen GTI just north of Exit 1 for a defective equipment violation and, as a state trooper approached the car, the driver accelerated and merged back into the northbound travel lane.

State Police gave pursuit, but discontinued soon thereafter.

Derry police located the GTI and attempted to stop it, but the driver kept going and the vehicle was soon abandoned. State Police said Koustas was found walking nearby and, after being identified as the driver, was arrested and charged by the Derry Police Department.

The case remains under investigation. State Police are looking into search warrants and say additional charges may be forthcoming.
