Busy Black Friday Weekend For Salem PD

Police made 56 custodial arrests and responded to 600 calls for service...and rescued a bald eagle.

Black Friday shoppers descended on Salem over Thanksgiving weekend, marking what is typically one of the busiest times of year for the Salem Police Department.

This year was no different from local police. On Monday morning, police said they responded to over 600 calls for service and making 56 custodial arrests over the holiday weekend.

Of the arrests, Salem Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten said 10 were for driving while intoxicated, over a dozen were for thefts and eight were drug-related.

Patten said that during Black Friday police made five arrests and various stores and included charges for disorderly conduct, assault and resisting arrest.

"We also managed to rescue a Bald Eagle," Patten said in a statement, referring to the rescue of the rare bird caught in a trap off Garabedian Drive on Thanksgiving Day.
