Arson Suspected at Meisner Circle Fire

Police said an apartment fire on Meisner Circle Monday appears to be a case of arson and the search for a suspect is ongoing.

They said the suspect, Luis Figueroa, may be hiding out in Lawrence, Mass.

Police said they responded, along with Salem Fire, to 6 Meisner Circle, Apt. 36, for a reported fire at about 7:19 p.m. Monday. Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze and were able to contain the damage to one apartment.

According to police, the apartment was vacant and "it appears the fire was intentionally set by someone who lit a stack of phone books on fire in the living room."

Salem detectives and fire investigators responded to the scene and began their investigation, police said.

Police have several active arrest warrants on the former tenant, Figueroa, stemming from a domestic assault incident there last month.
