74-Year-Old Music Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault

The incident is alleged to have occurred at Goodwin's music school in Atkinson.

An Atkinson music teacher was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault.

According to Atkinson Police, John Goodwin, 74, of 23 Academy Avenue was arrested on a warrant around 8:25 a.m. and charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault.

Goodwin was arrested after a three month investigation by the Atkinson Police Department and the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office into allegations that he sexually assaulted a male subject between May 2002 and October 2005.

The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred at Goodwin’s business, Goodwin Music Academy in Atkinson, where Goodwin teaches piano lessons. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Goodwin was released on $50,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
