Salem's Future is Ours to Make

Salem has a future filled with potential and opportunity.  Potential to re-develop itself into a modern example of what a New England town should be, and opportunity for those who seek to call Salem home.

In order to meet that potential and make it effective, we need to achieve many things as a town over the next few years.  Primarily, they are:

At the State level:

  • Achieve passage of a bill that would expand gaming, opening up the potential redevelopment of Rockingham Race Track into a casino

  • Achieve the passage of business-friendly legislation, that, through lowering taxes and burdensome regulation, will foster a better economic outlook for the town

  • Strive for passage of legislation that will support Salem’s public, private, and charter schools, enabling all parents in Salem to have adequate school choice that fits the needs of their children

  • Continue to ensure that no toll shall be placed on any State road going into or leaving Salem

  • At the Town level:

    • Continue the work of re-developing the Depot and other commercial spots throughout town to maximize growth in this new economy

  • Continue to ensure that every town project has measurable and specific goals

  • Work with County, State, and Federal agencies to become as effective as possible

  • Streamline, as possible, the process for opening a business in town

  • Examine every ordinance on the books for areas to consolidate and re-examine, and establish sunsets into every future ordinances to require automatic re-examinations

  • As a great town, we can strive to achieve many of these goals and the many others to make our town even greater, but we must present a unified front in order to do so.  An effort such as this requires active involvement by the people in the affairs of government.  Salem, I challenge you to make your government as transparent as possible.  Go down to the Town Hall and attend committee hearings or watch them from your television or computer.  You can also watch House sessions and get reports on what House committees are doing.

Our future as a town is extremely bright, but we must keep the lights on.
