OBITUARY: Irma (Potenski) Hayes

She died at the age of 85.

Irma (Potenski) Hayes, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2013 in Salem, NH. She was the wife of the late William A. Hayes, with whom she enjoyed over 51 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, she also resided in Syracuse and Schenectady, NY, and Wakefield, MA before retiring to North Harwich in 1989.  In Wakefield, she worked as secretary to the director of the Wakefield Library.  She was also very active in the Wakefield Little League program for many years and served as official scorer at state level title playoff games for both Little League and Babe Ruth. In Harwich, she was a director for the Family Pantry Corporation and also served as a computer operations volunteer.  She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Wakefield Bulldogs, and made many friends during her years in Salem, NH, where she enjoyed participating in Salem Rotary and Chamber events with her daughter Regina.

She was the mother of William A. Hayes Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Stetson, ME, Joseph Hayes and his wife Susan of Middleton, MA, and Regina Andler and her husband Eliot of Salem, NH.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren – Dawna, Christine, William III, Maria, Michelle,  Jeremy and Cheyann,  as well as six great grandchildren – Jeremy, Blaze, Ariel, Trevor,  Braden and William IV.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 o’clock on Monday, June 3rd at St. Joseph Church, 40 Main St., Salem, NH. Visiting hours are 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, June 2nd at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH.  Burial will be at 10:45 am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Tuesday, June 4th.  Memorial donations may be made to the Family Pantry Corporation, P.O. Box 234, West Harwich, MA 02671.
