Joyce Lehane: Salem Dispatcher, Award-Winning Pianist

Joyce A. (Travers) Lehane, 71, recently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joyce A. (Travers) Lehane, 71, of Salem New Hampshire, passed away on December 30, 2013 after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer, with her family by her side. Joyce was the daughter of the late police officer Walter J. and Stella Travers of Lawrence, MA.

Joyce was a graduate of St. Patrick’s school in Lawrence and a student of music at Boston University. She was a concert pianist, winning many awards. Joyce followed in her dad’s footsteps working 30 years for the Salem, NH police department with detectives, and then as a dispatcher. She took pride in making sure her officers had back up and stayed as a safe as possible.

Joyce loved to play golf. She belonged to golf leagues at Pine Valley Golf Club and Coral Oaks in Cape Coral, Florida, where she spent many winters.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years: R. Michael Lehane, Jr. of Salem, NH

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 6th at 10:30 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Salem, NH. Calling hours will be Sunday, Jan. 5th from 2-6 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH
