Letter: Bettencourt Will Look Out for Salem's Seniors

Thank you for your support, Dolores!

I have lived in Salem all of my life and am now retired on a fixed income. This March, Salem residents in my similar situation face an important choice with regard to our finances and our ability to continue living in Salem.

It is for the security of my golden years in Salem that I am supporting Shannon Bettencourt for the Budget Committee. Shannon is an impressive young woman who is a professional and will properly handle a budget to ensure that Salem’s seniors are not stretched beyond their means.

She will do so while ensuring that Salem maintains strong schools, passable roads and efficient town government. In speaking with Shannon, I know that her goals will be to manage the town’s finances so as to help and not hinder each family in balancing its own budget.

At the same time, Shannon knows that hasty and ill-considered financial decisions of any kind could seriously upset the subtle balance that encompasses debts, obligations, expenditures, deficits, taxes and the general economic health of Salem. Considering the right candidates for Budget Committee to handle and maintain that difficult balance should not be taken lightly.

As such, it is only after careful consideration that I am enthusiastic to support Shannon Bettencourt for Budget Committee. She has sober judgment and a dedication to the well-being of all citizens but particularly seniors, who are often forgotten about when it comes to taxes.
