Salem Special Needs Org, Kids Give Back to the Community

A local organization has given a check for $1,530 to a much-deserving group.

Submitted by Merrianne MacDonald on behalf of the Salem Area Special Needs Organization

The Salem Area Special Needs Organization is a group of volunteers that puts together events and activities for those in the Greater Salem Area with Special Needs.  They also assist the Salem Olympic and Jr. Olympic Devil teams with costs associated with participating with Special Olympics.  In hearing of the need and shortage of food at local food pantries, they decided to use a couple of their special events to help raise food and money to help the local pantries.

In October a Halloween Party was held by the Salem Jr. Olympics Devils at the Greater Salem/Derry Elks.  For admission to this party, participants were asked to bring in a food donation to benefit our Salem Food Pantries.

Recently, the Salem Area Special Needs Organization had their annual Holiday Party at Harris Pelham Inn.  Once again, participants and their families donated can food items and money for the Salem Area Food Pantries.

Salem Area Special Needs is thankful to those that participated in these events and for helping the Salem food panties by donating 72.8 pounds of food and raising $765 for the cause.  The organization decided to match the financial donation and pictured above is Merrianne McDonald (pictured on the right) on behalf of Salem Area Special Needs presenting a check to Ann Rowe (left) for $1,530.  We are so pleased and thankful to everyone who participated in these events.

Our Special Needs Athletes are so grateful for all the things they have and it has made us all feel so good to give back this year.  May you all have a Happy Holiday Season.
