A Portsmouth man is seeking help paying for medical care for his dog, which has extreme epilepsy and suffered nine seizures on Sunday.

Scott Alan needs donations to help pay Mosby's medical bills, according to the GoFundMe.com page. Patch has partnered with GoFundMe and is helping to highlight worthy campaigns in local communities.

In two days, 82 people have donated $2,440. The goal is $3,870.

From the page:

Mosby is a beautiful lab/pit mix who was rescued by and adopted from Carolina Care Bullies in 2010. Human dad Scott is everything a dog could hope for in an owner and best friend - Mosby is literally his son, and the two are inseparable. Shortly after his adoption, it was discovered that Mosby suffered from severe epilepsy. Scott worked diligently and tirelessly to ensure Mosby received the best treatment possible, but despite the best efforts of all involved, and a diligent treatment regimen, Mosby's condition continued to worsen.

At 11:30pm on Sunday, January 20, 2014, Mosby suffered a seizure. Over the next 18 hrs he suffered a total of 9 seizures and became increasingly unresponsive. His gaze became vague and fixed, he refused food and drink, he did not respond or react to pain/reflex stimuli, his tone was limp and floppy, he was unable to stand or walk. The only signs of life his intermittent crying, which broke Scott's already breaking heart. All night long Scott lay on the floor holding best friend, his son, hoping and praying for a miracle, fearing the worst.

As morning came, Mo stirred some and began crying again. However, he remained unable to stand, walk, or even move at all. Though somewhat more responsive, he was still far, far from his normal. Having reached out to Mosby's neurologist the day before, Scott was told to bring him in immediately. The clinic - Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, in Woburn - was an hour's drive away, before a snow storm. Scott bundled Mo up and made the trip, relieved to finally be getting some help.

At the time of this writing, Scott and Mo are at the clinic in Woburn and Mosby is being treated for increased inter-cranial pressure (swelling of the brain). He needs a stat MRI of the brain to further evaluate what exactly happened, his current condition, and what is the best course of action from here. Without prompt intervention and treatment, Mosby's condition is fatal. This is literally a life-and-death matter. Scott's very best friend, his SON, is fighting for his life, and Scott is fighting to save him. And he needs our help.

The current estimate for today's evaluation and treatment is over $5000 - the MRI alone is $3300. Perhaps this sounds like a lot to you - maybe you think, "He's just a dog!" But he isn't "just a dog." He is a man's best friend, his son. He is a hiking buddy, a playmate, a confidante, a warm cuddle, a tail wag at the end of a bad day, a loyal companion - for we are the novices of love, and they the masters. Please help us save Mosby's life by giving whatever you can. Every dollar helps and it adds up fast. The more we share Scott & Mosby's story, the sooner we will meet our goal and get Mo on the road to recovery. Please give. Please share. Thank you so, so, SO much.
