Sweeney Endorses Scott Brown

Rep. Sweeney says Brown will "break through Washington gridlock and fight to restore New Hampshire principles."

State Rep. Joe Sweeney, R-Salem, has endorsed Scott Brown for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

Sweeney, elected in 2012 as New Hampshire's youngest legislator, announced his support for Brown at the Barking Bean Café.

"Scott Brown is a problem solver and good listener who will break through Washington gridlock and fight to restore New Hampshire principles," Sweeney said in the announcement.

"As a college student, I applaud his efforts to introduce commonsense proposals to get at the root of the problems in our education system during his 'Making Higher Education Work' tour. Young people are struggling to break through bureaucracy and red tape while applying for financial aid, and we want to elect a senator who will fight to streamline this process and pave the way for better job opportunities. I am proud to stand with Scott as we continue to unite our party and hold Senator Shaheen accountable for her broken promises this fall."

Brown was the guest speaker at a Sweeney fund-raising event last year at the Derry-Salem Elks Lodge. Besides being a state representative, Sweeney is also University of New Hampshire Student Body President.

The state primary is Sept. 9.
