Good morning, Salem! Here are five things you need to know today, Thursday, Dec. 13:

1. BUDCOM FINAL SCHOOL VOTES: The Salem Budget Committee is holding their final votes and a public hearing on the 2013-2014 Salem School District budget starting tonight at 7 in the Knightly Meeting Room of Town Hall.

2. YES, IT'S TRUE: You may have already heard, but I, Jake O'Donnell, will be leaving as Salem Patch editor effective the end of the year. I'll have plenty more to say as we get closer to the time for me to depart, but I want to thank everyone for their support since I came on board in May of 2011.

3. ENTER DECK THE HOUSE TODAY: Do you have the best holiday display in front at your house in Salem? How about the state? How about the country?

Our annual "Deck the House" contest runs through Dec. 16 and the winner will receive $100,000 for their local schools. Enter your home today!

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: Vice President Al Gore reluctantly concedes defeat to Texas Governor George W. Bush in his bid for the presidency, following weeks of legal battles over the recounting of votes in Florida, on this day in 2000. Information courtesy of History.com.

5. TODAY'S FORECAST: Mostly sunny and clear with highs around 42. Mostly clear in the evening, low of 26.
