Salem Gets Another Scoop of Frozen Sweetness

A popular national frozen dessert chain plans to open a new location in Salem.

Orange Leaf, a national self-serve frozen yogurt chain, plans to open a location on Main Street in Salem at some point in the second quarter of 2014.

Company spokesman Richie Mills said Orange Leaf will build a new storefront between 389 and 396 Main Street, which is located just west of Wilson Corners not far from the Massachusetts border.

The targeted opening date, according to Mills, is April 2014.

Orange Leaf's expansion to Salem will coincide with new stores in Nashua and Bedford. The company has already opened locations in Epping, Exeter, Hampton Beach, Portsmouth, and Seabrook.

Orange Leaf got its start in California in 2008, and is now based out of Oklahoma City, Okla. Orange Leaf has more than 60 regular flavors, and each location has 16 flavors available at a time. Customers choose their own flavors and toppings, and are charged using a weigh-and-pay system.

Frozen yogurt shops seem to be the new business flavor of the month in Salem, as FroyoWorld opened earlier this year at 236 North Broadway in the North Broadway Crossing Plaza.
