Mall at Rockingham Park Unveils Big Renovation Plans

Construction begins in May. Mall hours will not be affected.

The Mall at Rockingham Park will launch its major renovation in May, with the construction completed before the holiday shopping season, Simon Property Group announced April 23.

Mall hours will not be affected by the renovation.

"This renovation comes at an exciting time for The Mall at Rockingham Park," General Manager Cindy Hall said in the announcement. "Over the years, I feel we have solidified our place as the preeminent, tax-free shopping destination in southern New Hampshire. We’re confident this transformation will enhance the mall to become one of the best in the entire region, and further strengthen our position as a shopping and dining destination for those not only in New Hampshire, but also in the Greater Boston area and neighboring Vermont, Maine and even Canada."

Renovation work will include:

  • Redesign of existing mall entrances, including automatic doors and a state-of-the-art façade, complemented by new lighting, signage and seating;
  • New dining atmosphere, including an entirely new color scheme with new lighting, new flooring, an updated seating layout with banquette seating and café-style soft-seating areas, decorative columns, and electronic charging stations for shopper convenience;
  • Updated feature stairs at Center Court;
  • New soft seating areas;
  • Renovation of the men’s, women’s and family restrooms with addition of nursing area for moms;
  • Flooring upgrades, including the addition of carpeting to some areas on Level 2
  • New glass railings for a more modern, sleek look;
  • Energy-efficient upgrades including LED lighting; and
  • A more contemporary color scheme throughout the entire shopping center.
In addition to existing stores like Lord & Taylor, J. Crew, Coach, Banana Republic, Sephora, Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and Microsoft, some Mall at Rockingham Park tenants will be relocating and remodeling in 2014. They include:
  • Vera Bradley (due to open this summer)
  • Red Robin (due to open this summer in the former Ruby Tuesday space)
  • Verizon Wireless/Wireless Zone (expanding in a new location)
  • Forever 21 (expanding in a new location)
  • The Finish Line (recently remodeled)
  • Belden Jewelers (relocating)
  • Kay Jewelers (expanding in a new location)
Salem Town Manager Keith Hickey called the Mall at Rockingham Park a "powerful foundation of commerce."

"Thanks to the Simon Property Group staff and our planning and development organizations here in Salem working closely together, we have seen the shopping center continually grow over the years," Hickey said in a press release. "This highly-anticipated transformation of the mall is yet another example of how a community working together benefits the entire region. We look forward to watching the progress and seeing the results this fall."
