Boys & Girls Club to Visit ConvenientMD

On Monday, Dec. 3, a group of children from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, NH will be visiting the new ConvenientMD in Windham, NH to learn about all of the facets of urgent care.  

“We’re excited to collaborate with the wonderful people at the Boys & Girls Club to energize Greater Salem’s youth about fulfilling careers in the healthcare field. Our physicians, nurses and radiology technicians are looking forward to sharing their passion for providing compassionate care to patients” says Max Puyanic, owner of ConvenientMD. 

This visit to ConvenientMD is a kick off to the Club’s new CareerLaunch program that will begin in December.  The program encourages Club members ages 13 to 18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join our nation’s work force.   

While at ConvenientMD, children will spend 90 minutes touring the facility and meeting with a physician, nurse, radiology technician, and medical receptionist. The tour begins with Dr. Jeff Collins, a nationally recognized physician within the specialty of urgent care. Dr Collins is well known for his work in establishing national ambulatory quality guidelines for the provision of urgent care and for his medical research in the urgent care field. He will address everything from why he became a physician, what physicians do, how to become a physician, and of course his specialty of urgent care. The tour will proceed with a registered nurse who will show them the lab equipment, how it works, and talk about some of the things they test for at the facility.  Next the children will meet a radiology technician who will show them how the equipment works, explain how to take an x-ray, and give an overview of their role in the clinic. They’ll also discuss how to become a radiology technician. The final stop on the tour will be with the medical receptionists who will provide an overview of their job.

This new partnership with ConvenientMD is exciting for the Boys & Girls Club.  “It’s a great opportunity to give a child a chance to explore the possibilities for their future career. Maybe we are looking at a future doctor, nurse or technician. Our hope is that our new CareerLaunch program will provide our Club kids with all the information they need to start thinking about life after high school” says Mike Stevens, Program Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem. . 

For over 45 years, The Boys & Girls Club has been providing a safe place for the youth of Greater Salem with affordable programs for preschoolers to teenagers. Our programs focus on character and citizenship, healthy lifestyles and academic success. We offer swimming lessons, sport’s camps, cooking lessons, homework help, sports leagues and art programs. Children have the opportunity to join community service groups and clubs such as the Keystone Club, Torch Club and the Ski & Ride Clubs. The annual Club membership fee is just $30.
