NH Children's Trust named Champion in Action by Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank and New Hampshire Union Leader today announced New Hampshire Children’s Trust as a 2014 Champion in Action® in the category of strengthening communities. NH Children’s Trust will receive $35,000 in unrestricted funding, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its outstanding work.

The New Hampshire Children’s Trust works to eradicate child abuse and neglect in New Hampshire by providing services that connect professionals with children and their families. They aim to improve systems and public policies as well as engage the public in creating healthy and safe families and communities for children. 

With the Champions in Action award, the New Hampshire Children’s Trust will provide financial grants to Family Resource Centers to assist families in times of need. Money will support area families for a variety of urgent needs such as diapers, baby formula, home safety equipment, car repairs or fuel assistance as well as offer effective individual and community strategies to strengthen families and keep children safe.

“New Hampshire Children’s Trust has made a meaningful influence in the community with its efforts to eliminate child abuse and neglect in New Hampshire.  Citizens is proud to support their efforts with this award so they may continue to promote awareness and provide help to New Hampshire’s most vulnerable residents,” said Joe Carelli, President of Citizens Bank for New Hampshire and Vermont.

Champions in Action is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program designed to enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities. It provides support for small nonprofit organizations to recognize their contributions to communities throughout New Hampshire.

“The New Hampshire Union Leader is honored to present this award with Citizens Bank to New Hampshire Children’s Trust for their meaningful work combatting child abuse and neglect,” said Joe McQuaid, President and Publisher. “We are happy to support an organization that benefits our community by strengthening families and improving the lives of our children.”

To date, the program has awarded 42 nonprofits more than $1.1 million in grants and promotional support in New Hampshire.

“We are very humbled to receive this award for strengthening our community, as that is one of our goals at New Hampshire Children’s Trust.  With this award, we will be able to engage more caring adults and provide even better supports to help New Hampshire’s children thrive in safe, stable and nurturing families and communities,” said Keryn Bernard-Kriegl, Executive Director of New Hampshire Children’s Trust.

As a Champion in Action, New Hampshire Children’s Trust will receive:

  • A $35,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from Citizens Bank;
  • Media coverage from the New Hampshire Union Leader including public service announcements over the course of six months;
  • Volunteer support from Citizens’ and New Hampshire Union Leader’s colleagues;
  • The opportunity for the organization’s executive director to participate in a “President-to-President” mentorship with Citizens Bank’s Joe Carelli;
  • Extensive public relations support;
  • Promotional support highlighting the Champion in Action on all Citizens Bank branch DCN screens and on its ATMs;
  • Exposure on both Citizens Bank and New Hampshire Union Leader websites.
