New History Professor Joins ACHLS Faculty

NEW HISTORY PROFESSOR JOINS FACULTY OF ACHLS

Dr. Jessica Parr is Historian of Race and Religion in the Early Modern Atlantic World

            SALEM, NH -- Dr. Jessica Parr has joined the faculty of The American College of History and Legal Studies (ACHLS) as the new Professor of History.  ACHLS is the nation’s first and only college dedicated exclusively to the study of history.

            Dr. Parr specializes in the history of race and religion in the Early Modern Atlantic World.  Her first book, Imagining George Whitefield: Race, Revivalism, and the Origins of a Religious Icon, is forthcoming from the University Press of Mississippi.  Her work has received a number of fellowships and grants, including from the Boston Athenaeum, the Munson Institute, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of Early American History.

            Dr. Parr is also an editor for H-Atlantic, an international online discussion list for Atlantic World History from 1500 to 1800.  In addition, she is a contributor to the More Than a Map Project, a smartphone application that allows users to locate, experience, and create African American history from the palm of their hand.

            Prior to joining ACHLS, Dr. Parr taught at a number of other area colleges, including the University of New Hampshire at Manchester and Granite State College.

            Dr. Parr's educational background is impressive.  She received her Ph.D. in History (2012) from the University of New Hampshire at Durham; an M.A. in History (2012), also from UNH; an M.A. in History (2005) from the Simmons College Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; and an M.S. in Archives Management (2005) from Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences.  She received her B.A. in History in 2000, with departmental honors, from Simmons College.
