When Does Salem's Winter Parking Ban Begin?

Ticketing will begin soon for vehicles found in violation of the winter parking ban and snow emergency parking bans.

The town of Salem's annual winter parking ban goes into effect on Nov. 15 and will continue until April 15, 2014.

On-street parking is prohibited between midnight and 6 a.m. during this time period, according to the Salem Police Department. All on-street parking is also
prohibited at any time during a declared snow emergency, which police define as 3 or more inches of snow accumulation.

"The Salem Police Department, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works, asks residents to adhere to these parking restrictions during this upcoming winter season," according to a release by the department.

Informational fliers will be placed on vehicles found parked on the street from Nov. 15 to Nov. 22, and police will issue warnings between Nov. 23 and Dec. 1. Tickets will be issued at that time.

"Beginning Dec. 1, parking citations will be issued to all vehicles in violation of the winter parking ban," according to the department.
