Late Salem Green Beret Honored for Post-9/11 Service

A local military member who died last year was among the individuals mourned Wednesday during a special Sept. 11, 2001, ceremony.

Salem's Shawn Hogan was one of the five new names added to the Global War on Terrorism Monument on Wednesday during the annual Sept. 11, 2001, remembrance ceremony in Hampton.

The granite monument pays tribute to New Hampshire servicemen and women who have died while serving their country since the 9/11 terrorism attacks. Sixty-two total names are now listed on the three-stone memorial outside American Legion Post 35 in Hampton.

Hogan died at the age of 28 on Oct. 17, 2012, due to injuries sustained during a training exercise. The Green Beret and Salem native loved hiking, rock climbing and other outdoor activities, in addition to being an "avid reader," said Post 35 Cmdr. Ralph Fatello during Wednesday's ceremony.

Hogan was a graduate of Salem High School, where he was a co-captain of the school's cross-country team.

Salem also held a 9/11 remembrance Wednesday.
