He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure.
Police arrested a Salem Ford technician Thursday who was masturbating in a customer's vehicle while on break. Mark A. Rice, 44, of Hooksett, N.H. was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure. Salem Police were dispatched to the Marshall's parking lot at 12:06 p.m. for a report of a male subject exposing himself in the vehicle. Rice was in a black Hyundai Sonata bearing a Massachusetts registration, parked approximately six cars away from the front of the business. Salem Officer Robert Holland responded to the parking lot, where he subsequently found the vehicle. Holland exited his cruiser, walking one car length away from the car. At that time, he could see Rice in the vehicle with his genitals exposed. After …

The Framingham-based company's quarterly profit fell 9.2% amid soft demand for computers in North America and weak international sales.
Framingham-based Staples plans to close 40 stores in 2013, reported the Boston Business Journal. During a call with analysts, Staples reported quarterly profits fell 9.2% amid soft demand for computers in North America and weak international sales. Staples, headquartered in Framingham, Mass., started 2013 with 1,886 stores in the United States and Canada. Staples, the largest office-supply chain in the U.S., has sought to trim costs by cutting jobs in Europe and reduce its North American retail space, reported the Wall Street Journal. "I think when I look at our two biggest challenges, we've got to get the top line growing again and I think we've got to improve our results in international," Chairman and Chief Executive Ronald Sargent said…

We went straight to Sonic's VP of public relations for the answer. Here's what he had to say.
Last week, we answered Rick Pickard's question about when Five Guys is scheduled to open on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. But Richard, another Patch reader, said what he really wanted to know was when another popular national restaurant chain is coming to New Hampshire. "Actually, what I'd like to know is rather than another 5 Guys, which seem to be poping up EVERYWHERE, I'd like to know when we are going to finally see our OWN Sonic Drive-In! Currently you have to travel to either Peabody or Willmington MA to enjoy the Sonic experience." As Richard pointed out, the closest Sonic restaurants are in Massachusetts, and right now there are no locations in the Granite State. So we asked Patrick Lenow, Sonic's vice president of public …

After just two years of operation, a local business has taken a big step.
After just two years of operating in Salem, a local beer and wine supply shop is now brewing their very own beer. Border Beer Supply, located on Lawrence Road, announced the opening of Border Brewery late last week through a Constant Contact link on their Facebook page. The nano brewery, which is currently cash-only, received federal licensing earlier this year. To celebrate the brewery opening, four beers are on tap with one on the way. We have listed them below, along with the descriptions provided in the Facebook notice (ABV stands for Alcohol by Volume): Sticky Paw Brown, ABV 6.5 Smooth soft mouthfeel, hints of nuts and roast, with a slight sweetness on the finish. Border IPA ABV 5.8 West coast style IPA. Border Cream Ale ABV 5.5 A …

One of the town's newest local businesses recently had its soft opening, with a grand opening to be announced.
Salem's newest entrepreneur has had a hectic but encouraging opening to her coffee shop on Main Street. The Barking Bean Cafe, which had its soft opening at the beginning of the month, will soon announce a grand opening. Residents are already taking to the trendy business. When we recently caught up with owner Cassie Schofield, kids and adults alike were steadily streaming in and out of the shop. Take a video tour of the coffee house above and hear from Schofield about the opening of her business. Visit here to read our story on the Barking Bean Cafe, published earlier this year prior to Schofield's opening.

Dr. Azar Korbey teamed up with his brother-in-law to launch docWebTRC almost seven years ago.
There's a running joke between Salem practicioner Dr. Azar Korbey and his brother-in-law John Alders that Korbey invented the Internet. Long before Korbey and Alders teamed up on a business venture that started as an idea and has since stretched across the country, Korbey was already making moves to establish the online presence of his medical practice. "I was one of the first doctors around to have a website," said Korbey. "I wanted it to be useful to the practice so it cut down on phone calls." Prescription refill requests, non-urgent appointment requests and secure online bill pay were all available at the click of a mouse. The concept was unique for the late 1990's, and Korbey later learned that other doctors shied away from an online …
