Are you a Republican?
Many years ago I ran across a poll of Democrats and Republicans asking them many questions to determine what the differences between them might be. On just about every issue the polltakers selected, it was easy to find people on either side. But one type of question seemed to distinguish members of each party clearly. Most self identified Republicans thought that their decisions had something to do with their fate.
Republicans questioned believed that their choices as individuals changed their future to some extent. Democrats tended to consider themselves at the mercy of fate.
The common statement that there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats has little merit. In at least this one respect the difference is clear.

There are Republicans on any side of any issue you can raise including social issues. The point is there is one area that most self described Republicans can agree on id est "The choices each individual makes play a role in their future." If you believe this you may be a Republican.

Are you saying Republicans are selfish?lol
I think you are distinguishing between conservative and liberal, not party affiliation.

@Tammy, I was referring to a poll taken at the party conventions many years ago. There have been similar polls since with virtually the same results. If I find one, I shall post it. Rather than try to distinguish between parties on the basis of single issues on which people within the parties may disagree, I was trying to note convictions on which almost all Democrats and almost all Republicans in fact do agree respectively that distinguish self described members of either party.

Tom-I get what you were saying. I just disagree that the differences are that black and white.
I see political parties being akin to religion in the sense that most join the party of their family tradition. Whether an individual is liberal or conservative is another matter. That seems to have more to do with education, philosophical worldview, and economics. Today, the fad is to label oneself as moderate and unaffiliated with any party. It should be a good thing but has resulted in a group of mostly apathetic voters who either vote on a single issue, name recognition or some other point without reason.(if they vote at all)

Rebuilding Middle Class Security - to quote the new democrat MA senator "the middle class is getting hammered' still after 4 years of Obama
Putting Americans Back to Work - fewer people working, more on food stamps.
Cutting Waste, Reducing the Deficit, Asking All to Pay Their Fair Share - the government just admitted $ 1.5 trillion is wasted. Deficit still going up, Fair isn't fair, fair means give more than others.
Economy Built to Last - what is Obama doing giving billions to Peru and Brazil for offshore oil while he shuts down US oil?
America Works When Everyone Plays by the Same Rules - who isn't playing by the same rules?
Wall Street Reform - Obama ran on this? Has anyone been arrested yet? No!
21st Century Government: Transparent and Accountable - Lets start with all the Patriot act (DAA) executive orders that Obama has put in.
Strengthening the American Community - How has this been done?
Protecting Rights and Freedoms . Again see additional DAA
Stronger in the World, Safer and More Secure At Home. I won't be travelling out of the country. not safe
Responsibly Ending the War in Iraq. Still there with 'advisors'
Disrupting, Dismantling, and Defeating Al-Qaeda. Drones killing Al-qaeda and Americans
Responsibly Ending the War in Afghanistan. we'll see
Preventing the Spread and Use of Nuclear Weapons. Iran and Korea are laughing
Maintaining the Strongest Military in the World sequestration will cut by 25%
Advancing Universal Values . very earthy crunchy

Responses from five different people are "a pretty good indication that I am on the right track"? Did you do any presidential polling for FoxNews and the GOP?
