Which Salem Business Do You Miss Most?

Let us know by posting a comment below.

Despite the birth of a lot of new business in Salem, the town has seen others, like Ritz Camera, Friendly's and Daddy's Junky Music, shuttering in the recent past. This got us thinking: Which Salem business do you miss most?

If you could have one Salem business that has closed in recent years reopen, which one would it be? Let us know by posting a comment in the comments section below.

I miss Circuit City, with very little competition Best Buy has terrible customer service, limited product selection and prices are not that great. Thankfully their is the internet and Amazon

Sadly, local family businesses will continue to dissappear if we continue to shop on the internet and send our money out of the community. Small local businesses help support our community in many ways, including fundraising for various events and sponsoring local sports teams. Remember, BE LOCAL/BUY LOCAL :)

Yes, those two were fantastic. I still go to Butcher Boy occasionally in N. Andover but it was so nice to have it here in town.

Does anyone remember Pete's Little Store in the Pines? I used to buy my Landlubber jeans there all the time. Loved that little shop!

Yes Belts and Pete's. Also loved Ryan's Diner behind Gelts parking lot. Used to go there as kid with my father. He was a plumber in Salem and did a job for Bob Loos addition way back in 70's. We went there every Friday night. I saw Close Encounters of third kind at Jerry Lewis cinema back in day. Jimmys Barber Shop in Demoulas plaza (later became Mr James).

Bought my first bike at bike shop near Gelts I think there is a dunkies there now? Across from at the time Indian Head Bank and Trust. We went to Don Peglos too they sold and serviced boats and marine stuff. Behind that was a grange feed store? This is near intersection. Schofields? Was like a book and stationary store. So many memories. Moved to Londonderry in '73 at age 8.

How about Lechmere Sales. I used to drive up to Salem from Lexington, Ma., to get cases of cassette tapes on sale. You couldn't beat there appliance prices back then.
