"Superheroes" is one of many award-winning films screened at the 11th annual NH Film Festival over the weekend.

Michael Barnett, director of "Superheroes," marvels at the success of his documentary, "Superheroes," one of the films screened at the 11th annual NH Film Festival in Portsmouth this weekend.

Barnett was raised in Concord and attended Plymouth State College and the University of New Hampshire. In this video, he stands on stage at the Music Hall to discuss the challenges of filming ordinary people trying to do extraordinary things ... as they wear costumes.

(At the beginning of this Patch video, he is referring to the legendary comic book king Stan Lee, who appears in the film once or twice as an expert reference point. Lee applauds the heroes, but wishes they stay safe.)

"Superheroes" takes place in several large communities across America.

Of the filming, at times on the dark streets, Barnett says, it was dangerous work. But it was rewarding work.

If they're stopping people who are harming or trying to harm other persons or property, then I think they are heroes.
