Selectmen to Discuss Polling Location Changes

Reports from boards and commissions representatives also expected tonight.

Potential reductions to Salem's number of polling locations will be discussed by the Board of Selectmen tonight at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall for their regular meeting.

Town Moderator Chris Goodnow said Salem presently has six polling places, the largest number for any town in the state. In order to better align themselves with state election laws, Goodnow said changes need to be made.

Goodnow said voters passed a warrant article at town meeting in March authorizing selectmen to make alterations.

"We have six polling places but we have one reporter to collect all the results as one entity," Goodnow said. "We're looking to consolidate locations."

The board will also hear updates from their own representatives on various town boards, commissions and committees, including the Budget Committee, Conservation Commission, Council on Aging, Historic District Commission, Museum Committee, Planning Board, Recreation Advisory Committee, Field of Dreams Committee, Town-wide Stabilization Committee and Economic Development Action Committee.
