The Eagle Tribune has reported that a shopping center project at the site of The Green Barn restaurant is pushing ahead, with a variance being granted by the Salem Zoning Board of Adjustment last week.
According to the paper, the variance pushes the 22,000-square-foot 'Salem Plaza' to the Planning Board, where a hearing will take place on Tuesday. The Green Barn will stay open, but move to a different location.

Another beautiful barn being torn down to make way for Corporate profits. Does Salem really need another drug store? Shame

I look at it this way, its a win/win. The owners want to maximize profits on their investment. Who wouldn't, be honest and no "ya buts". It will bring more tax revenue to help keep ours down and a few more jobs will be made available.

dwb.... May a CVS open next door to you ! I just don't like expanding Urban Sprawl. Keep commercial enterprises in commercial areas and protect residential neighborhoods. Have you heard of Planning Boards? Your nicer towns have the strongest Planning Boards, for this reason and no Ya Buts to you either.

Hi Joe, I will try to retrieve that. I'm assuming it will also come up at tomorrow's PB meeting.

I suggest the the Green Barn will not reopen. When applying for an apeal it sounds better. I am told it has not been a very popular restaurant, for years, since the father passed on.
