Police: Two Had Heroin in Vehicle With Infant

Danielle and Adam Walker of Salem face drug, child endangerment charges.

Two local people were arrested Sunday afternoon after a vehicle stop revealed they had heroin and a three-month-old infant in their vehicle.

Salem Police charged Danielle Walker, 25, and Adam Walker, 26, of Salem with endangering the welfare of a child and felony heroin possession. Adam Walker faces additional charges of possession of drugs in a motor vehicle and operating without a license.

Police said they responded to the area of 7-Eleven on Cluff Crossing Road after a dispute between a male and a female in the parking lot had been reported.

The female was reportedly arguing with the male not to drive because he was intoxicated and callers reported a small child was in the vehicle.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle traveling west on Cluff Crossing and during the investigation they were able to find a small amount of heroin in the vehicle.

Police said the male driver also did not possess a driver's license.

Both adults were taken into custody without incident and the child, a three-month-old, was taken to police headquarters and released into the custody of a family member.

Bail was set for both at $2,500 cash and they were later taken to Rockingham County jail pending arraignment. Police said the state Division of Children, Youth and Families was also notified.

You cannot force someone to get help - they have to want it. Drugs do awful things to people, and families. Turns them into people you cannot even recognize. Obviously this young couple is lost and I would suspect would not do this intentionally, as I knew them at one point in my life. More often than not drugs bring you down and hopefully this situation will bring them back to reality. Unfortunate situation. I hope they get the help they need and accept that help.
