Officer Injured During Struggle With Suspect

Police said Dalton Cyr tried to grab for officer's gun during struggle; five others taken into custody in early Friday incident.

Salem Police took a total of six individuals into custody following an early-Friday morning response to a fight on Stonegate Lane.

Two subjects struggled with police and had to be subdued. One allegedly tried to grab a Salem officer's gun and the altercation led to a hand injury to the officer.

Another subject smashed out the rear window of a cruiser using his own head, according to police.

Police said they responded to Stonegate Lane for a report of two males fighting in the street at 3:30 a.m. Friday. The reporting party told police one male was lying in the roadway while the other had fled on foot toward Haverhill Road.

Two subjects were placed into custody upon arrival. Police said they learned the disturbance originated from 11 Stonegate Lane and after making contact at the residence, four subjects took off on foot into the woods.

Police said several other subjects in the residence were identified as being under the age of 21. Officers determined the subjects were intoxicated and possessed alcohol.

The most serious charges from the incident were levied against Dalton Cyr, 20, of Salem who was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol, resisting arrest, simple assault, criminal mischief and attempting to take a firearm from a law enforcement officer.

Police said Cyr attempted to grab the firearm off a Salem officer during a struggle. While the officer thwarted Cyr's attempt, the officer sustained a hand injury and was later treated and released at Parkland Medical Center, police said.

Cyr was arraigned and is being held on $50,000 cash bail, police said.

Eric Greenwood, 21, of Methuen, Mass., was charged with resisting arrest or detention, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, prohibited sales and simple assault. Police said the criminal mischief charge was a result of Greenwood "smashing out a police cruiser window with his head."

Also as a result of the incident, Raymon Cooper, 19, of Methuen, was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol; Edward Colon, 22, of Methuen, was charged with possession of controlled drugs and simple assault; and Britany Lambroukos, 17 of Salem, was charged with prohibited sales.

Another individual was taken into protective custody, police said.

3:30 in the morning and our police are out there fighting with people like this and keeping us safe in our rural neighborhoods.. All the while we have our BOS cutting, cutting and cutting while i'm sure they were all tucked in warm in their beds. Well maybe not all, i'm sure one selectman was still buried deep in the budget book looking for more cuts to make.

We can't pay our police and firefighters enough for their protection, nor our DPW employees who keep our roads cleared in the winter and our water and sewer running year round.

Time to stop bashing town employees in my opinion
