Men Charged After Diaper, Beer Theft
One of them allegedly lied about his identity to police after incident at Walmart.
Salem Police said they arrested two men from Lawrence, Mass., Tuesday after they allegedly stole beer, diapers and baby formula from Walmart.
Police said they charged Shaun Klier, 29, with theft and arrested him on an outstanding Rockingham County warrant, while John Murphy, 46, was charged with theft, resisting arrest and false reports to law enforcement.
Police responded to Walmart Tuesday at approximately 7:30 a.m. for report of two males who had stolen four cases of beer, two cases of diapers and a case of baby formula and were attempting to flee the parking lot in a taxi.
The driver of the taxi refused to take them and police said Klier and Murphy were left stranded in the parking lot. The two men then fled in different directions.
Police located one suspect in the lot of the Hess gas station and he was taken into custody without incident.
The other was located in the lot at Planet Fitness. Police said he "struggled" with them, was taken into custody and later lied about his identity.
Both were booked and transported to Rockingham County jail. Police said the total value of what was stolen was approximately $200.
Klier refused bail while Murphy was held on $620 cash, police said.
