Ayotte: President's Libya Story 'Sketchy' [VIDEO]
Bin Laden is dead–what else will come up in the final presidential debate on foreign policy?
Libya popped up in the last debate, but U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) expects Mitt Romney to push for more information on the Benghazi attack that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Patch asked Ayotte what she wants to hear in the presidential foreign policy debate Oct. 22. She responded: What did President Obama know, and when did he know it?
"The only thing 'sketchy' we have seen in this campaign right now is the multiple stories we've heard from this administration on what happened in Libya," Ayotte said in the interview.
WATCH the exclusive Patch video for more of what Ayotte expects of the final presidential debate.
Obama, when he campaigned in New Hampshire on Oct. 18, touted his foreign policy successes, including the death of Osama bin Laden. His spokesman, Jay Carney, told the White House press pool en route to the swing state that the president's would be underscoring progress in tracking down Al Qaeda terrorists, and that more work is ahead.
The final presidential debate–dedicated to foreign policy–is scheduled for tomorrow night, Oct. 22, at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Bob Schieffer of CBS News is moderator. The debate runs from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., EST.
Debate topics, as they are phrased by the Commission on Presidential Debates, include:
- America's role in the world.
- Our longest war – Afghanistan and Pakistan
- Red Lines – Israel and Iran
- The changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism.
- The Rise of China and Tomorrow's World.
Felicitations and Solicitations
Ovide Lamontagne wished a happy birthday to his wife, Bettie, comingling it so with a request for campaign donations. "For her birthday, I'm sure Bettie would appreciate your generous contribution today of $25, $50, $250, or $500 to help us get the truth out, and fight these attacks on my character," the Republican gubernatorial nominee writes in his email blast last week.
"The election is only 18 days away, and my opponent and her liberal DC allies are running millions of dollars in desperate and false negative television ads against me every day."
In case you missed it last week, while at the Londonderry Fish and Game Club, Lamontagne picked up the endorsement of the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund.
Maggie Hassan, the Democratic nominee for governor, continues to challenge Lamontagne on women's issues. Heading into this weekend, her campaign released a statement blasting Lamontagne, citing the Susan B. Anthony List support for the GOP candidate. Kathy Sullivan, Hassan campaign co-chairwoman, said:
“Ovide Lamontagne is not being straight with New Hampshire women about his radical ideas to cut access to birth control and criminalize abortion. Ovide would even make criminals out of women and girls who have been the victims of the crimes of rape and incest.”
Rand Paul Returns to NH
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) returned to New Hampshire yesterday for a Mitt Romney campaign event at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. He's a powerful surrogate, among other big names scheduled to appear down the stretch for the candidate.
New ads in the 2nd District
Annie McLane Kuster is out with a new ad, her seventh of the general election campaign, on U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass' record. According to Kuster, the Democratic challenger in New Hampshire's 2nd District, the Republican incumbent supported policies that encourage companies to ship jobs overseas. It goes on to say, well, click here to watch it.
The Bass campaign was also out with a new ad, "Bipartisan Leadership for Women," in which he talks about fighting for women's health and equality. His campaign noted he co-sponsored legislation to streamline research and funding to end breast cancer and called for reauthorization of the violence against women act.
Who's First in the 1st?
In the race for the 1st Congressional District, Democrat Carol Shea-Porter won the endorsement last week of the Portsmouth Herald and the Conway Daily Sun.
And the ad is still airing: The ad that U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH) claims is an "absurd misrepresentation" is still on the air, a week after his campaign called for a cease and desist. The DCCC ad claims Guinta votes resulted in Granite Staters paying more than $1,000 in taxes a year. Guinta called it a trend for his rival, whom he defeated for the seat in 2010. Derek Dufresne, Guinta spokesman, upped the charge: "There's not a single television ad that Carol Shea-Porter has run this election cycle that hasn't been called false or a flat out lie from New Hampshire and national fact checking organizations.

Any woman who would vote to defund Planned Parenthood, has no place in representing the women of NH or the US. A vote to defund PP is a vote to increase cancer in women. And it's a vote to create more welfare moms, so that you can belittle them, after forcing them into pregnancy and labeling them, Welfare Moms. Women like Ayotte disgust me with their lack of compassion.

Or Welfare Queens. Or we could have teens put an aspirin between their legs, like I'm sure Ryan or Aiken, I'm sure must have done. And other GOP members who preach self control in kids, while knocking on men's room doors, looking for a quickie or getting caught in affairs or with prostitutes. Yes, they understand what self control is. cough, cough

Seminnh wouldn't you want to know the truth and nothing but the truth about his Benghazi issue if it were you father, husband, brother, or someone very near and dear to you? When the president alluded to the "buck stopping here" on his desk with this issue it makes me wonder then why wasn't Hilliary Clinton summarily fired when it became known just recently with her "falling on the sword" for the president that she admitted it was her failing of duty?

The father of the ambassador has asked for this NOT to be a political issue. And said certainly not to be used against the Obama administration. So, don't tell other people what they would do if they were their parents, father, brother or sister. His father has stated that he is being kept fully up to date.

Finally after over a decade it would appear the right is ready to admit George Bush was in fact responsible for the attacks and subsequent deaths of Americans on 911. And also having been given information disclaiming the existence of WMD's in Iraq he is also responsible for that needless war. As well as the deaths from Katrina. As he was also warned of the possibility of destruction prior to the hurricane hitting our shores.

Ayotte squealed like a pig stuck under a gate that Obama released too much information about the death of bin Laden - even demanding an investigation into the "leaks" from the administration. And now she's stuck under that gate again, squealing Obama's released too little information. She's a joke, even her own party laughs at her.

The complaint isn't merely that the Obama Admin has released inadequate information. It is that they have spun the story with "information" they knew to be inaccurate, in order to hide their incompetence.

You don't even make sense. I'd say you're a mile high of something besides pie. Do you seriously think that paying for a child for 18 years is better than offering birth control? Somehow feeding and housing unwanted children, seems to get lost in your thinking. PP helped to prevent up to 500,000 pregnancies last year alone. What are you going to do when those kids show up at your door looking for food and shelter? I'll bet your generous heart, will be the first to let them in the door. Sandra Fluke, was asking that private insurance companies cover the cost of birth control-something many have done for years. They cover viagra and it's 15 a pill. You can get some birth control for 15 per month. PP doesn't give birth control for free, unless you are unemployed. Most people pay for it. If Sandra is a slut for wanting her insurance company to cover birth control, what does it make your mother for having her tubal paid for by her insurance company? It was a lot more expensive in the long run, even to have the surgery, than to take the pill. Now, you wouldn't call your mother a slut would you? Or your grandmother?

Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was president of the Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. He served THREE TERMS representing the 13th District in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.--Hardly an organ grinder.....

OldCatLady...in response to your question asking if my mother and grandmother were sluts…my mother and grandmother never looked for a hand out from the government. They worked very hard all their lives unlike most of the people you protect that want to lay around all day and collect welfare, food stamps, free cell phones, and dabble in illicit sexual activities all the while watching Jerry Springer. As for Obama he can’t even help his own kind out in the inner city. Black unemployment is higher with him in office as it ever was yet they all ever march like minions to the voting booths to cast their votes for him because of the color of his skin, and the offerings of the taxpayer’s free “stuff”. As for Obama’s educational record…have him produce his files from Harvard and Columbia. He was a token Black Man for Harvard don’t kid yourself please!

Mile High, If you believe Fluke was a slut, because she wanted her PRIVATE INSURANCE company to offer birth control coverage, then if your mother or grandmother had their tubes tied, another form of birth control, they likely had it paid by insurance, which in your mind, makes your mother and grandmother, sluts. That's your mentality. I feel sorry for your trashy relatives, believe me. Obama's own kind? I would rather be his kind, than YOUR kind.
