Five Things: Selectmen to Review 2014-2017 CIP

Also, a school safety public forum reminder.

1. TODAY'S FORECAST: Partly cloudy skies and a high of 32 are expected. A low of 25 and clear skies will follow tonight.

2. CIP ON THE SELECTMEN AGENDA: A discussion of the Capital Improvement Plan for 2014-2017 will take place tonight at 7 p.m. in the Knightly Meeting Room. A consideration of a warrant article to sell town property is also among the agenda items. See the meeting schedule here.

3. SCHOOL SAFETY FORUM REMINDER: A school safety forum is scheduled for Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Salem High School television studio. All are welcome to attend.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1789, America's first presidential election is held. Voters cast ballots to choose state electors; only white men who owned property were allowed to vote. As expected, George Washington won the election and was sworn into office on April 30, 1789.

5. NHL LOCKOUT IS OVER!: Hockey fans, your sport is set to come back this month. A minimum schedule of 48 games will take place this year after the differing sides in the NHL lockout finally reached an agreement early Sunday morning. It's going to feel a lot more like winter here in New England pretty soon.
