UPDATE: Route 111 Reopened After Fatal Crash

Woman dies in crash with tractor-trailer.

UPDATE, 7:37 p.m.: Moments ago, Salem Police tweeted that Route 111 is now open for all traffic and the road has been cleared.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: In a press release, Salem Police said the accident took place at 10:45 a.m. and involved a car hitting a tractor-trailer, with the car rolling over.

Police said a 2009 Mazda operated by a female was traveling eastbound when it crossed over into the westbound lane and hit a 2002 Kenworth truck. There were no other occupants in the Mazda, according to police.

Police confirmed the death of the female operator of the Mazda.

On Twitter, Salem Police said Route 111 remains closed and they believe it will remain closed through the evening rush hour. They are asking motorists to seek an alternate route.

EARLIER STORY: Salem Fire Chief Kevin Breen said one woman died in

Breen said the woman was driving what appeared to be a Toyota and crashed into a tractor-trailer driven by a male.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and Breen said the woman was pronounced dead on scene.

As of about noon, Breen said the woman's body had not been removed from the scene and the state Medical Examiner was anticipated to arrive shortly.

The male driver of the tractor-trailer did not have any "obvious signs" of injury, Breen said. Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.

Breen said in addition to Salem Police and Fire, officials from State Police and the Rockingham County Sheriff's office were on scene. 

The accident took place just east of the intersection of Route 111 and Autumn Woods Road. It's expected Route 111 will be closed for several hours as crews investigate the scene.

Police have blocked off the entrance to Route 111 at the Route 28 intersection in Windham. Traffic is blocked off in both directions at Zachary's Crossing. 

As of 2 p.m., Route 111 was closed from the Route 28 intersection to the Ermer Road intersection in North Salem.
