Town Fireworks Display Postponed

Recreation director says inclement weather appears to be on the way.

Citing the possibility of a "severe storm" heading Salem's way tomorrow night, Salem Recreation Director Chris Dillon announced in an e-mail this afternoon that this year's July 4 celebration and fireworks are being postponed a day to Thursday.

Dillon said he's been watching the weather reports the last few days and expressed concern about possible storms.

"Unfortunately, it appears as if a severe storm will be hitting the Salem area tomorrow night around 8ish," Dillon wrote in the e-mail. "To ensure residents' safety and an enjoyable event, we will postpone the fireworks and celebration to July 5."

All activities will take place Thursday starting at 5 p.m. with fireworks to go off at 9:30 p.m. at Salem High School.
