Shoppers are flocking to stores for Black Friday sales in New Hampshire, according to the Associated Press.
Parking lots have been jam-packed at retail stores throughout the state. Hundreds of shoppers descended on the Merrimack Premium Outlets, which opened earlier this year. One couple set up outside the Best Buy store in Newington on Wednesday night so they could be there at midnight to pick up some discount electronics.

Black Friday is a day not only of big sales and high hopes, but it also follows a day to reflect on things we are thankful for.
As people shop at the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall this weekend, I would like to give thanks to all the workers who built that complex. I’d also like to give thanks for contractors who follow laws about paying wages and keeping jobsites safe.
Unfortunately, in spite of major community efforts to warn mall developer Simon Property Group, both the General Contractor hired by Simon and subs hired by the GC were cited and fined by NH and federal agencies.
The NH Department of Labor issued findings against eight contractors with fines of $3,400 (NH DOL reports).
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued citations against ten contractors, with fines totaling a whopping $173,500 (Nashua Telegraph, 9/7/12).
Simon has plans for a Phase II of the Mall. We ask that residents and officials remember the violations on Phase I. Simon broke a lot of promises on Phase I. Let’s not let them get away with that on any future projects. Then we will have even more to be thankful for.
